And sadly, most of the money is just taxes. The actual gross salaries are often higher than in America, but anything over €4000/mo is punished with 30% extra "rich mans" tax. Or capital gains tax which should technically only apply to businesses. And there's another fuckup, big globalists businesses pay 0 tax while small businesses pay between 20% - 30% in capital gains tax.
And what red blooded American anons don't understand about Europe, 75% of them live in cities. They've never used a lawn mower. In many cases they aren't even allowed to do amateur home improvement (electrical license/etc). They are generational renters. We take so many of our freedoms for granted.
Germany has less wealth per person than Missouri. UK and France? Less than West Virginia.
For the good, the bad, and the ugly. I've lived in everything from commie block apartments, classic European style apartments to row house/pair house, cabins, village house and farms. They all have pros and cons considering price, freedom and living space. Here's an interesting chart and table: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urbanization_by_country over percentage of urban population by country.
Interestingly enough it's more than 75% by now, and America is at 82.7% urban population. Some of Europe is more urbanized, other parts is less urbanized. Ireland is 63.7% for instance, France 81%, Germany 77.5%, Switzerland 73.9%.
The urbanization is worldwide and in many cases it's by force, lot's of people who want to own a house or live in a rural area/village can't afford to do so and is forced to live in a apartment complex.
As a rule, never underestimate how poor Europeans are.
