I get what you are saying. Family meant everything to him & he’s gone for years. The actor requested to leave or take a break to be with his family. He’s English & lives in UK. I believe his intent was a short break and come back to the show. Then Covid happens & he can’t leave UK. After watching Walking Dead World Beyond it explains why he might not be able to return. They don’t mention him by name, he could have been with CRM all this time.
