People back then trusted television, radio and newspaper media far more. But it was still limited in reach compared today's mass media. There was no mass lock down due to the swine flu epidemic as an example.
Plus, back then people were in more social clubs and discussed person to person and families were larger. And there were more nuclear families and less single households.
You could also argue that we didn't take the jab bc we DO have the internet and are capable of doing our own research and that's why we don't listen to the TV, radio, etc.
The internet is a great tool but it has to be utilized with a critical mind. Or else it is not any different than any other mass media platform.
Indeed the internet has connected and sped up our common understanding of how the world really works. And the systems put in place to grind people down have become more evident.
