The Dutch Republic lasted from 1581 to 1780 = 199 years. Although in name only it lingered on for another 15 years, weak and bankrupt, to be swept up in the French Revolutionary armed forces for almost 20 years:
And because Napoleon was defeated in 1813/1814, the royal Princes and interests then could accommodate their wet dream.
That is 208 years .....
Now, the talk of independence is kicking up. .....
1791 => 2022 = 231 years ....
It seem Louis has a point ....
These same processes are beautifully told in the books: Foundation-series by Isaac Asimov and Dune- series by Frank Herbert.
Or, if you prefer: The rise and Fall of the Roman Empire by Gibson.
The French however, have a different timeline. They are already into the 5th Republic since 1789.
