They still sell sewing boxes at JoAnns and craft stores but following the example I was taught I will always use a metal cookie tin with a lid. But it's always too full with the odds and ends for the lid to fit. Kinda like our model above.......

Ah, one of my grandmothers had one like that. You are right, never see them, even in antique shops.

I have only seen those online. My mom and grandma had cheese box table sewing box. Like this one with legs.
