Shouldn't that be up to Congress? Where does that power come from?

Of course Biden doesn't have legal authority to simply delete people's debts. If presidents had that power, everyone would have their debts deleted every 3.75 years, shortly before elections.
This is just another stunt by the democrats to chump the foolish public. Naturally, there will be (at least I hope) a legal challenge to Biden's ridiculous, authoritarian power grab, and that challenge will be led (in theory) by some [people] from the Republican party- because 99.9% of democrats with legal authority to make such a challenge are crooks, and will gleefully support Biden's illegal power grab.
Hence, in a couple of months, after the legal challenge has run it's course, the democrats will screech about how the meanie-head republicans poo-poo'd on their debt "forgiveness" plan, just in time to demand that the idiot college kids need to vote democrat for the mid-term elections.
I wouldn't hold my breath. Who's going to go to court and demand that the college students pay their debts? That sounds like political suicide to me. It's much easier to just let taxpayers take the hit and blame it on Brandon.
