The woman in the logo (Original was a siren) is wearing a Russian fur cap! (Ushanka)
The taken-over McDs are now called Uncle Vanyas.
Good for them! Although I agree with motrhed3 - there's prob some ties behind the scenes we don't know about, and CharBucks is just virtue signaling its "stand with Ukraine" by "withdrawing" from Russia.
why is it in english though? should be in Cyrillic
Spez: after reading, I surmise ownership is probably still with the people that own starbucks, since they stole labeling from starbucks and starbucks is not making any big waves about it.
No. Totally Russian owned. And they didn’t steal any labelling. One of the guys that bought it owns tattoo and beauty saloons and car washes across Russia and the name of that chain has ‘Star’ in it. Black Star. A brilliant business move.
No. The owners have many businesses across Russia. Timati Yunusov - a famous Russian rapper and restaurateur Anton Pinsky who has a string of burger joints and restaurants are the new owners. The Rappers businesses have always had ‘star’ in their name - Black Star. It was just good marketing to include ‘star’ under the coffee shops. 130 ‘star coffee’ shops have now reopened. Starbucks said they might come back one day; somehow that is not going to happen now. Same with McDonalds.
Russia took over ownership of foreign owned corporations based on certain criteria during foreign sanctions. Many US corps chose to shut down which allowed Russia to seize assets. McDonalds was another one of the losers there.
The way it was made legal was that corporations who participated in the sanctions ended operations in Russia. Russia made it law that doing so negatively impacted Russian economy and penalized Russian workers. The law declared these to be abandoned assets including the trademarks etc.
Here is a story about McDonalds being sold as a result. Sorry for the trash link but it is what it is.

Pretty sure that's a kokoshnik.
Thanks for the correction - I wear fur cap in the winter (down South) with the gold star in front to trigger the normies.

That’s hilarious! And their coffee is probably better than Starbucks.
I would imagine it is and the big difference is some of the coffee lines have alcohol in them. 😀
