So then why is everyone clutching their pearls about it being redacted? Shouldn't it be a bad idea to reveal to a subject of an investigation the methods of that investigation?
There is a difference between what is legal and what is right. The new administration investigating the previous administration is extraordinary in the extreme and that demands extraordinary transparency. No one is arguing that it is illegal to withhold the affidavit, just that it's wrong to do so.
If you read Trump's filings demanding that the affidavit be unsealed, his legal team does not argue that the affidavits must be released as a matter of law, instead they argue that, in this specific case, the affidavits should be unsealed.
Also, Trump was posting messages "Release the affidavits!" No one responded - well, you have a copy yourself! Release yours. Kash made all the rounds on the patriot talk shows and argued why they should be released, but was never asked why Trump doesn't release his copy.
