It's like the multiple personality disorder craze back in the day. Everyone was being diagnosed or self-diagnosed, but it was just a trend.

People also misdiagnose social anxiety and shyness (especially in the proximity of family) as Asperger's, but when removed from the family sphere they start to socially blossom.
