Yep! They do the same bullshit here in CA. PG&E put “smart meters” on millions of homes. The purpose of “smart meters” was to get rid of meter readers (employees that would go house to house to read the meter so they knew how much to charge you), and secondly, to be able to control your thermostat during “energy emergencies”. I had PG&E remove the “smart meter” they put in my house and replace it with the original analog meter. Ironically, PG&E charged for this service!

Yes. We are changing our meter back to analog. Costing us an extra $30 bucks a month.
