‘Blood is thicker than water’ is short for the blood of the Covenant is thicker than the water of the womb. It means the opposite of how people use it today.

Wow. I had no idea. Thank you for sharing this. To be honest, I always secretly believed this to be true, as my bonds with strangers have many times felt more stronger than the bond I feel for my family, sadly, especially during these times. Stay true, frens.
I like the modern interpretation better. But then I have always been tied to my clan tighter than to any outsider.
I don't have much use for those that aren't willing to trust in, and defend their own blood. I have even less use for those that are traitors to their own.
I posted the correct meaning of that phrase in its proper long form. You unwittingly echo the changing in meaning of age old phrases that the enemy of Christ intends to hide. Changing the meaning is to erase the original intent. It is so we don't remember and the original meaning and intent is lost in history. It just goes along with every aspect of the evil one does. It is our job to keep these popular old age saying tied to their original intent. If you want a phrase for your particular philosophy then you should wittingly create one. Who knows it may catch on.
