a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives

They literally mean the same thing to the extent that a Republic can definitely contain democracy or be based on democracy (small d) and be a robust Republic.
Dividing divisive dividers gonna divide and create division. But the two terms are not mutually exclusive.
IMHO we turn the table on them. Republicans speaking from stage should EMBRACE the term democracy and start using it constantly, championing it, taking it away from the other side so they literally have nothing to run on except pedophilia and rampant crime.
