Jill Dando got shot as she was unlocking her house door in London. She was a "Crimewatch" reporter with the BBC and someone didn't like the fact that she was investigating pedophiles.

(Yes, they have guns in the UK - well, the baddies have.)

Of course the police never found the culprit or the motive.
