Once your crops fail, what can you do?
Once you have pests, what can you do?

But we live here, we aren't a mobile force that travels like the military. Why not utilize what land you have? Most people waste their lots with Junk scattered everywhere. Cans are great but its not very nutritious.
I’m not saying don’t utilize resources available. But when resources are constrained, getting shit now while it’s cheap is your best bet. If shit hits the fan and you need to “bug in/out”, it’s going to be dangerous to have a visible source of food for others. Not to mention the time sink.
Doesn’t scale at all. Especially not in a STHF scenario. Much more practical to just buy canned vegetables/meat/peanut butter etc.
There’s a reason why militaries use canned/highly preserved rations. They’re not storming Baghdad or Fallujah with farm-raised, organic lettuce.
