When the queen which is the most powerful piece on the chess board is captured the game is effectively over. I do believe the real queen has been on ice for some time waiting for the right moment.
I read Bobby Fischer's book in high school then went ten years unbeaten. Assuming you've lost most your pawns, knights, rooks and bishops, it is inevitable you will lose the queen then concede to your opponent by tipping your king over.
I am hypothesizing perhaps the correlation of the queen officially "dying" to "shall we play a game".
Don't make me come over there and kick your azz in chess. :)
When the game is won.
