Elvis was kind of a shock to my parents. My mom loves Elvis' old movies. Like Blue Hawaii for example. She was like.. I know some his music and I heard he got really bad or something drug related later on in life.
It was like a really good "history" lesson and Tom Hanks being a creepy, horrible, gaslighting pervert was about right. It got the ball rolling on discussion about other artists. Like Amy Winehouse, Britney Spears, Katy Perry and so forth.
Parents thought the movie was really good but... reaally sad. I'm looking at it as a way get them to watch more dramatic cinema as Elvis was one of the darker films that my Hallmark Movies and Pureflix mom has ever seen.
Haven't watched it, can you give me a TLDR as to why this was so dark and eye opening?
Well. It is from the perspective of the terrible manager that ruined Elvis' life and exploited Elvis to pay off gambling debts to the point that it killed Elvis. So, it's kind like the lady in Requiem for a Dream who gets hooked on those diet pills while her son steals from her to support his drug habit. Think of Tom Hanks as the son and the doctor that gives her the pills.
Yeah that movie was also a great example of what a bad a bad actor Tom Hanx is. His attempt at that character was cringeworthy. Given how many times his accent went away entirely, I would imagine the Director or the film had to reshoot his scenes over and over and over and finally just gave up and let him bomb on camera.
Agree - I wept openly at the end of it.
The Colonel’s accent creeps me out
