Incumbent advantage is strong because of exposure. This is an observable effect regardless of rigging.
Challengers will always have to spend way more money (which is ridiculous) than an incumbent for similar exposure, and will possibly have to start campaigning earlier than is effective.
So for example, everyone knows who Trump is. No one knows who Joe Average is. Trump gets nonstop free press because he has already been in office for 3 years, but Joe Average has been campaigning for a year.
Under Trump, people experienced a comfortable life (until the scamdemic) so it is something they know and understand. Humans, being resistant to change by nature, are always going to be more likely to vote for the status quo than Joe Average who might change the world. That's where some of the distinction lies.
As for clean vote vs term limits, we can enact change at multiple levels together. And since the powers that be convinced people that term limits were right for the presidency, it makes absolute sense to limit career politicians that were never supposed to make hundreds of thousands of dollars higher than the population.
