Trump knew all sorts of builders and architects in NYC. If the World Trade Center buildings were for sale and were a "good deal", I think he would have leapt at the chance to buy them. Owning the most iconic buildings in the city he loves? You know he would.

But he didn't invest in them. Why? Because he knew builders and architects and knew that the cost of remediating those buildings (asbestos and who knows what else) would have been massively expensive, without any hope of the office rentals etc being able to eventually pay it off.
