Even if that were true, what gave them the right? Is it because they were bigger and stronger? More civilized? They didn't just move into places where the people lived in huts. They attacked nations that had established governments and infrastructure and then stole what they had.
There was no altruistic notion of making the nations they conquered better. They did all that to make Great Britain better. Perhaps they got the idea from the Normans.
That is the way of empires, unfortunately. The United States put an end to it, in a way. I think Humanity is better for having spread Western Christian culture, though it wasn't always done perfectly or gently.
