The problem with the Left, if you think they're at least being honest, is that they always took Trump literally, but not seriously. His supporters always took him seriously, but not literally.

When Trump answered the question about QAnon and how they're against child trafficking and say he's leading the efforts to stop it, and Trump answered "is that supposed to be a bad thing?"
