Picking up any other tool though.. say a hammer.. doesn't mean that some faceless goon I cant even see can control my hammer remotely, and can use it to attack my interests, my family, or my neighbors. At will, at any time, with no negative repercussions or consequences.
I dont know for that reason that it can even really be classified honestly as a tool. And if it still is, its certainly not a tool of the person who thinks they own the phone.
Reminds me of the Little House on the Prairie episodes when Harriet was caught listening in at the switchboard and spreading gossip around Walnut Grove.
I think this is more a problem with the improper use of technology as a whole. Spying through phones is one thing - they can listen through walls, beam voices in your head, spy via satellite tech like gorgon stare. It's a double edged sword. We can use technology to do incredible or terrible things. At the end of the day, these are all inanimate things that take on the character of the one wielding it.
tools are not good or bad on their own, its the people that use them
And Iād say the shape of society speaks for itself sometimes in this regard.

It and social media are weapons, but those weapons got turned on them too.
