Some Russian Orthodox consider that with the fall of Byzantium, the title of "emperor" passed on to Russia, so that they would have sole rights to the shroud over all the other Orthodox. The shroud not publicly displayed except on rare special occasions. It is next scheduled to be displayed by the Catholic Church in 2025.
Nobody “owns” it. It was hidden in a stone wall at Antioch for hundreds of years until an earthquake exposed it. Franks took it back to Europe with them and it bounced around Europe in possession of various families for a long time.
As for Russia, they (and I) venerate an Icon of the Mandylion which is the face from the shroud.
Ever heard of the Suderium of Oviedo? It’s the face cloth mentioned in the Gospel accounts, and the stains on it exactly match the image on the shroud.
It’s real, and it’s spectacular. (To paraphrase Seinfeld).
Big if true. Have investigated. Am convinced.
Weird/fun fact:
Elvis died on the toilet reading a book about this
I did not know that. What a way to go.
yes, most of the stuff in the Illuminati card game is real stuff hidden in plain sight.

Always believed it was.
Excellent summary of the evidence. Good rebuttal of the "medieval forgery" argument.
This is all really interesting but I wish they posted published findings and more info about it. I always like deep dives on things like this.EDIT: Scratch what I said above, the pictures didnt load the first read through but they loaded now.
I believe.
I have to remain a skeptic. The face on the shroud is like 2 dimensional being flat. If it were real, in my estimation, the face would be rounded like a ball. If you wrap a cloth around a 3D object like a manikin, you would not get a face like that. Just my opinion. And it would be classified as an idol in God’s view.
There was a documentary on the history Channel some years ago which dealt with this issue and how they used modern forensic facial reconstruction programs to construct the face of Jesus. Recommend the show.
Nobody worships the shroud. They venerate it. As for the image, if you inquire into the subject deeper you will be astounded.
No it isn't! There was a later examination a few years ago, using I think ultra violet or infrared light on it and a 3D facial image showed up. It was remarkable.
I'll try locate that documentary if I can, it was extremely enlightening. IIRC they found evidence that the image was burned into the cloth by some kind of radiation 'burst'.
Of course it is,they tested a repair years ago......
