I will say when we bought this house years ago it had recently been painted on the inside. I had thought that since we moved away from a lot of trees that the trees were the problem as my allergies went away after we moved. I think it's just an accumulation of dust in the house. Now house isn't visibly dusty, but there is dust in nooks and crannies. I think I'll use my new battery-powered blower to try to blow as much dust out of here once the weather gets good enough for me to open up the house.

Why don’t you try cleaning? If you have an HVAC get the vents cleaned by a professional. Get your house inspected for mold.
HVAC vent cleaning is a good idea.
Air purifiers work wonders to keep down the amount of dust in your house, too.
