What exactly was Voat? What made this aggregate site special that it became such a prevalent site for anons during its time? What's the story of how it was infiltrated and eventually shut down?
I've been asking these questions to myself over the course of my time here, and while I'm fairly confident about the third question (one word, in fact!), I know next to nothing about Voat itself since I was still a teen normie during its height.
Now, I'm not just asking for straight answers here, frens. What I'm really after is where I can properly research about Voat without getting things wrong from disinformation. Thanks!
God wins.
It was a sewer, but for a while it was our sewer.
The migration from Reddit to voat was something I'll never forget. Folks had to get used to free speech, some adjusted better than others.
Had some great conversations on voat. Good memories.
But Voat was one step up from the Chans, yes? (From one goat to another.)
Or down. Depends on perspective.
