You may be thinking – this is a joke, right?
A new study published last month in Science Translational Medicine used 200 mosquitoes to deliver live malaria-causing Plasmodium parasites
that had been genetically modified to inject malaria into the arms of human test subjects in a new vaccine trial.
One Seattle morning, Carolina Reid sat in a room with nine other volunteers, each waiting to take part in a clinical trial for a new, experimental malaria vaccine.
Reid's turn came.
She put her arm over a cardboard box filled with 200 mosquitoes and covered with a mesh that keeps them in but still lets them bite. "Literally a Chinese food takeout container" is how she remembers it. A scientist then covered her arm with a black cloth, because mosquitoes like to bite at night.
Then the feeding frenzy began.
"My whole forearm swelled and blistered," says Reid. "My family was laughing, asking like, 'why are you subjecting yourself to this?'" And she didn't just do it once.
She did it FIVE TIMES
Seriously W✳️T✳️F ! ! !
The insects deliver live malaria-causing Plasmodium parasites that have been genetically modified to not get people sick. The body still makes antibodies against the weakened parasite so it's prepared to fight the real thing.
To be clear, Murphy's not planning to use mosquitoes to vaccinate millions of people.
RIIIIIGHT ! !
Mosquitoes have been used to deliver malaria vaccines for clinical trials in the past, but it's not common.
They went old school with this one," says Dr. Kirsten Lyke, a physician and vaccine researcher at the University of Maryland School of Medicine who was not involved in the study. "All things old become new again."
She calls the use of a genetically modified live parasite "a total game changer" for vaccine development.
This type of vaccine is of course not yet ready for prime time. But the small trial of 26 participants did show that the modified parasites protected some participants from a malaria infection for a few months.
This Shizzziness is nearly unflucking believable.

Whatever happened to informed consent? This is totally illegal.
If you are genetically modified by the mRNA vax☠xine are you a patentable synthetic creature? Most people will say no, but what do the financial Cabal say?
My thoughts are they believe they own us. This massive experiment on the American public is an opportunity for them to make that claim. What's sad is the decision will be made without ever revealing it to the public. In fact, Congress long ago passed an Act signed into law that our government can experiment on us, the American people, without ever telling us so. There's plenty of examples of it to which it was exposed. Oooops.
They believe they own us anyway.
These are the bugs revelation talks about, with lion's faces. What a time to be alive, for now.
I posted the following earlier, but here's my take on this.
I read the recent TGP article about mosquitoes being used as a new means of vax☠xinating. I am not disregarding this, but the article gave me the impression that the proof of concept was obtained only through extremely high number of mosquito bites. As a consequence the high number of mosquitoes needed, it doesn't sound plausible for most real world situations. The girl's arm for example was completely swollen by the large number of mosquito bites. I understand she had to leave her arm in the mosquito cage for a long time too. Who is going to be bit this many times? Albeit, I knew of a farmer who got his tractor stuck in his field and my brother-in-law was called to pull him out. When Donny got there he saw this poor guy jumping around swatting at all the mosquitoes swarming him. The farmer had to be taken to the hospital because he was bitten so much. Donny laughed about the situation because to a farmer getting your tractor stuck in the mud is plain foolishness. You never want your neighbor to ever know this. Donny told me this story and said to me the most funny part was that he was out there for more than 2 hours getting his neighbor's tractor unstuck and claimed not once did he get bit by a mosquito. Now that is how a farmer will insult another.
Time to buy more mosquito magnets.
