So many balls up in the air. Do we feel Lucky in October? Will Christmas come early?

I do not understand taking joy in punishment of those who have committed egregious wrongs to others and to humanity. Nor do I want to. I acknowledge those who have done evil must face justice yet also know God is Love. Better we commit ourselves to helping those in need and those injured by such evil.
God is a lot more than love, fren. Love is not His only attribute.
Love is sometimes "tough"; not fun.
Peace through strength, fren. "A Republic, madam, if you can keep it."
Keeping it is the important part and makes space for everything else. If the DS is to be stopped, then good men and women must stand up to it and say NO by the most effective means possible. Sometimes, the 'means' requires consequences of a less-than-savory-sort, which might not be your part to play. Your part seems to be to help comfort the wounded and broken-hearted, and that will be valuable and needed.
In the end, a permanent boundary MUST be set and enforced by those skilled in and unafraid of conflict in all its forms. A message MUST be sent. The DS MUST clearly understand that if they EVER try anything like this again, the price to pay will simply be too prohibitive. This is how we keep our Republic.
You can't have a country without protected borders, and you can't have a civil society without people willing to keep it.
Hold the line in your way, fren.
Agree that there will be many parts to be played and am not shy or unprepared for effective defense or, as necessary, offensive defense. Just suggesting that once the DS is stopped we must get back to the rule of law. . .otherwise we might well replace that which was defeated. Vengeance belongs to the Lord.
