I refuse to bank with large institutions. I use credit unions and small local banks only. I've had no trouble pulling tens of thousands of dollars from them.
No. Walked in and walked out with $10k cash one time and $6700 cash another time. Within the last two weeks. They didn't ask me what I was going to do with it, either, which I know is happening to some people.
I don't use "certain large institutions." I use the state credit union, which us members are the owners of. I can draw out whatever I want. Of course, if I draw out $10,000 or more, they are required to tell the government. I do a lot of depositing and withdrawing, so anything less than $10,000 is not seen as unusual.
If you get money out, try to get small bills as much as possible.
You're not going to be able to run to the bank with a $100 bill to break it down for those 5 chickens your bartering for. You'll be paying either the whole $100...or you will be trading a good or service for them.
Yes, told this story a few days ago here. My brother tried going into BOA and withdrawing a 5 figure amount. They wouldn't give him cash. No matter who he spoke to, they wouldn't give him that amount in cash. They'd write a cashier's check or transfer to another institution but refused to give him that amount in cash. It was over 25k. He did it because he was listening to someone, not sure if on TV or online who said you couldn't do it and he wanted to test it for himself. He called me to tell me about it and said I was right but not sure what he meant by that part.
A bank demanded to know what a check written to me was for. I told him to stick it. None of their business. It took almost an hour and a nasty phone call from the check writer to cash it. It was a decently sized check, but they really did not want to cash it.

Did you need to wait 10-14 days for the withdrawal to go through?

Yes. I had to wait 2 weeks to get a few bills.

He specifically mention the problem exists within the credit unions as well.
As to the small bills I 100% agree. Nothing larger than a $20
why small bills?
Easier to barter with.

No issues for me. Nothing unusual. ATM's work up to certain amounts, and I get a choice of bills (100's, 20's, or a mix).
Larger amounts are fine with the tellers.
Unsubstantiated fear porn - trying to create a bank run? What is the point of these types of lies?
