They've been getting away with overt garbage. A lot of those "child classics" like Little Mermaid and Sleeping Beauty are derived from very dark and fucked up stories some arguably demonic... but they dressed it up enough that we assumed they were family friendly.
On the other hand, a story is a story. If someone a long time ago told a horrible story, and someone more recently retells the story but takes out what is horrible, what you now have is a variation of the story that isn't horrible. Tend of millions of people, if not hundreds of millions all grew up and lived lives admiring the likes of those movies without any care or impact from the stories' origins.
Little Mermaid is a bad story all around. And... I'm not so sure that's true.
People have done research here explaining subliminal perversions and how they hide degenerate things to covertly expose children to perverted things. Well... It could be argued that telling a "cleaner" story of one that was already demented in the first place will still carry the same themes just in a more subtle way.
But here's the real kick in the balls: not ALL of the Disney films are bad. Some are actually just decent and good movies...
