DeSantis is a great governor but so was Jeb Bush. DeSantis will have to show me that he is a real MAGA, America First guy before I would support him for president.
I would support Trump over DeSantis at any rate.
Is it even a choice? If the plan is in place then you'd think Trump is going to start to condition the populace on why MAGA is good before stepping aside and letting DeSantis take over.

I choose President Trump any day because he is an American Icon who stood for what he believed for many decades. Growing up I naturally felt Trump perfectly fit into the role of President.
I don't really have much to say about DeSantis, he hasn't really had a lifetime of being tested and rising from triumph into greatness like Trump, nor has he been in the public eye for very long to be considered an American Icon in my opinion.
...that is exactly why DeSantis is a darling of the media....
Perhaps this is just my ignorance showing with election matters but, can Trump just run on his own.... without endorsement? Can he break the two party system? Heck, I'd probably be inclined to just write his name in even if he doesn't run.
...if he can set up a money generating/disbursement apparatus then yes....
IIRC he said he wont make a third party. He wants to make republicans respectable again
