The astronomers are calling on the FCC to hit pause or deny SpaceX's request to launch nearly 30,000 satellites for the second-generation Starlink network.

You'd think the global warming asshats would be all in on more satellites. Just think of all the shade they cast.
...howls...
...there would definitely be more stars to gaze at....
All political. There is so much room out there. Like grains of sand on the beach. 30,000 grains of sand fills a hole a kid digs with a plastic shovel.
...not so much "political" as it is a threat to the current internet providers who are using politicians to block this technology....
Isn't that political???
Not necessarily, but it assists the ISP oligopoly by denying this.
I had to look up ISP oligopoly. Thanks, I learned something!
As a photographer, I have to disagree. Those satellites already pollute the night sky when we try to take long exposure images. I can't imagine another 30 thousand of them. Geez, attempt to improve the tech instead. I'd love internet in the middle of nowhere, but I don't want to see it up there either.
Understand your concern. My comment is that there is a lot of space for these satellites. Long term exposure photography is important. Don't get me wrong. The technology will improve as soon as we become a free country again.
You do realize they aren't spread far out.... Amazon got approvsl to put a massive amount of low orbit satts up. Thry're crowding the space around us... then Blacksky got a huge gov contract...
But adding more satellites messes up the view of the real stars in the sky. There are enough lights moving around up there already.
We haven't gotten the first generation Starlink yet. It's only available in some places, most notably not where I live.
Fucking nerds better not kill me getting muh Starlink.
Radio astronomy would be more accurate and detailed if done from the moon anyway, which is an increasing possibility.
