Group think is powerful! I heard a radio show about how panic will make people completely ignore common sense and basic facts. One of the stories was about a group of hikers who got lost and they convinced themselves to go in the wrong direction because they believed that water was flowing uphill in their location. I think covid set up kind of a panic in people's mind, and then as a group, they all did what simple analysis should have shown them was wrong.
