I would clear the paintings out of that area and let them remain glued to the wall.
The idiots who glued themselves to the wall to protest use of petroleum... don't realize that the 'superglue' is MADE from petroleum. Also, the distillates used to remove the 'superglue' and unstick the protesters... is also made from petroleum.
I can almost guarantee that the clothes they were wearing (like the vinyl lettering on their T-shirts), or the rubber on their shoes is also made of petroleum. Even the reporters covering the "protest" were filming using cameras filled with plastics, rubber and coatings made from petroleum.
Like climate protesters anywhere... these two were a complete sham.
The only thing in that room that didn't involve petroleum in some way was the painting they damaged. It was all natural.
Was the it done in water colors? Because oil paint is, well, oil, right?
They always assume someone is going to scrape them off the wall.
I've pondered the issue as to whether anyone has the obligation to unsticky them, as it was a conscious decision on their part. I assume they both had cellphones that they could use to call for help. If so, simply remove the valuable paintings from the room and turn out the lights for the night. To be generous, I'd leave them both a bucket, a couple of bottled waters and perhaps a loaf of bread.
Sometimes you need to provide a lesson for others contemplating similar tactics.
Vegan friendly and natural fiber cellphones I hope.
Put up signs to exhibit them as a sculpture: 'retards glued to a wall'
