I have to upload ID and answer a bunch of questions to even get to the log in page. I don’t even have the option to cancel unless I do exactly what they say.
They say within 5 days they’ll decide whether to keep me as a customer or not. I barely use PayPal, so I’m obviously on some kind of list.
Either that, or they’re keeping people from cancelling by making it laborious to even log in.
They are harvesting as much data as possible as a last ditch effort to save themselves financially. Hence the id. If they are gonna cancel it anyways, then absolutely dont give them a picture of your id.
Just because your account is deleted/terminated/offline, doesnt mean they dont retain your data. They definitely do.
If you email their technical support line directly with a request for them to terminate your account, I think they are required to do it for you. Not entirely sure.
It sounds like it would be a safe bet to close the bank account / credit account attached to a paypal account just to be sure.
^ This.
I got a follow up to a data deletion request that included caveats. They even say they only delete some of your data.
