My feeling is that not only is gender dysphoria found in many young people who are on the autism spectrum, there is also many characteristics found in persons who have narcissistic personalities, complex ptsd, and borderline personalities. One common denominator is abuse during childhood. These people are different from transvestites and drag queens. Many of them are asexual, but since celibacy is often maligned in people who are not of some strict religious order that demands it. The narcissism is obvious, these people are self absorbed, very self absorbed. I do not think it is a left or right or conservative or liberal issue. Many of these kids experienced abuse within a religious family, (and not just Catholics). But the self absorption is exhausting and obnoxious. I have a close friend who befriended a woman who has been trying to change her gender, she calls herself a man, had double mastectomies, takes testosterone. She was also raped by her stepfather, trafficked, and is on the spectrum, though high functioning. She cannot bear to see herself as female, that is how damaged she is. Please let us see the whole picture and pray for them and especially keep our eyes open about the abuse that occurs Rein all kinds of families. People who would seem fine and respectful and successful, not all the famous people , but everyday people in our communities who may be monsters when it comes to parenting. Above all, pray for them, do not shun them if you have an opportunity to let Jesus's love and compassion shine through. They are confused, and so many are not given peace when they transition, we should allow them to seek God, not put stumbling blocks in their way. And may God Almighty protect all children from soul wrecking abuse.
If I could up vote your comment 1,000 times I would. Seems like not enough on our side understand what goes on in a victim's mind, those that were abused by "family" members. When that's all a young adult knows, they think it's the norm, and project it outwards because they don't know anything else.
As a child of narcissist parents, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for pointing it out.
