I'm happy Ashley has left her leftist leanings and has become a 'conservative'. Ronald Reagan use to say republicans needed to be a "Big tent". He was right. A Big tent of followers propelled him into the presidency. His charm, wit, and oratory skills were his advantage and no politician on the left could match him for it. As part of this Big tent it included democrats, who were dissatisfied with the post-Vietnam Carter years. They joined the republican party because they felt they could get more traction there under Reagan. And boy did they. These were the Neo-Conservatives, as they were called by political commentator William F. Buckley in his National Review editorial magazine and on his public affairs television show "Firing Line". This was to clearly differentiate them from paleo-conservatives that columnists Patrick Buchanan and Joseph Sobran espoused. I remember it well because I was a paleo-conservative and would have to explain the difference to my friends.
Why am I bringing this up in regards to Ashley's conversion to conservativism? The Big Tent is critical for winning elections. This is why swaying Independents are so important. How far Ashley travels in her journey to be awakened is up to her. The other day at a dealership, I saw a very tattooed and purple haired mom escorting her little boy to the men's bathroom. The irony there spoke volumes. I'm glad this mom 'gets' it in regard to gender. Every thing about her screamed otherwise. It actually made my day. Maybe the woke can become somewhat based.
