I don't believe that the rationale behind these events needs to be overly complicated to make sense. UK blew up Nord Stream pipes and Russia retaliated by cutting UK undersea internet cables. Warfare today is mostly tit-for-tat, because neither side dares to escalate a conflict into a full blown-out world war, therefore its a game of "getting even".
P.S. I believe the UK hasn't really got any personal reasons to carry out hostile operations against Russia, but they do so on the behest of the United States, because it would be bad optics for USA to be painted as an active participant in this conflict.

2022 and we're still using nation states to describe these entities? Bloke in Newcastle doesn't have any reason to piss off Russia, Rothschild Pyramid that uses 'City of London' as their center of Financial control sure does.
When we examine the quality of the term Nation State it is difficult to see it surviving the onslaught of mass immigration, rendering the word Nation useless.
What is left is a state, or estate, a plot of land where people work as in Roman times:
Slaves, indentured serfs, mansi, coloni and the free folk from the gutter.
Those were the "ingeseytene", or have nots, untouchables. Today that is achieved by forcing you to use your public law corporation called your strawman.
In and of itself it makes sense in a res publica, the problem is that it is a public law corporation and not a private law corporation. This allows the government as the issuer, to set the terms and conditions of use. Hence the growth of government and its encroaching tendencies, while at the same time sucking at the prime directive: border control.
To restore the Nation State tens of millions of people have a little journey ahead of them, back to where they came from. And it also presumes the leit-culture. However, currently, that has become an almost gordian knot to solve.
