Ditch the big stores like Sephora and ulta along with the big name brands. Seek out small companies making quality non toxic body products. Yes, it takes some research! It’s so worth it in the end. Even the makeup can be made from plants. There’s nothing like personal service from a person that’s passionate about what they do. I order on Etsy from many small businesses. I could make anything I order but prefer to order what I need instead of stocking up on supplies. I also don’t have room in my house. When was the last time you had a conversation with someone about what you were ordering? Gotten hand written notes and coupons with your orders? Of course it’s not for everyone.
Yesterday I started messaging a shop owner about customizing a body butter. She responded very quickly and after ten messages just from her (not including my messages) I placed my order for face cleanser, body butter and hibiscus oil I’ve been searching forever for. Normally I don’t need that much attention to order something. I had a question about the benefits of an essential oil I wanted.
I know Etsy is a big corporation. However it’s where most small businesses are these days. Most of these crafters, etc get started on Etsy and when they get more customers they are able to leave Etsy selling their products on an independent website. If I had another way that’s not a big corporation to find these people I’d use it.
I find excellent home crafted items of all kinds, including skin care and soaps, at the local street festivals. All of the towns and cities within 45 miles of me have annual fall and spring festivals. They're not small either. All have a lot of vendors and most of those are local or at least regional people.
Did you ever get catalogs from Faith Mountain? They had a huge, national operation before they went belly up a number of years ago. I first found them at a local festival near where I lived years ago, that's how they started. I bought homemade tussy mussies from her.
That’s great you find items locally. The local farmers markets have about 1-3 booths with homemade soaps. I haven’t found anything for myself. Either they don’t put ingredients on the label or they use coconut oil and palm oils. I can’t use coconut because it dries my skin. I’m also buying plant based face products and shampoo/conditioner online. I haven’t seen anyone selling these. The face products are better than the high end brands that claim to be non toxic. Even when I find named brands that might work a tiny bottle is $80.00. I’ve got very sensitive skin and can’t use just anything.
I’ve never heard of Faith Mountain.
