My brother and I had this discussion awhile back about how most people today look and walk like absolutely slobs. Very few have any pride about their appearance out in public and it's very lacking in the workplace.
A lot depends on the type of industry you are in, but overall, things have gotten very sloppy over the years. Before business casual took off, my SIL worked for a high end clothing store and I got her discount. I had a great wardrobe and the quality of it compared to the rags you get today was striking.
That said, my family owns a dry cleaner and my mom commented that as people are going back to work, the quality of clothes has improved. Lots and lots of dresses over the summer and while it may not be suit and ties, men are going back to a more traditional business casual with button down shirts. I think everyone is sick of sweatpants. Friend of mine is back in the office and she said she actually feels better getting dressed in 'work clothes'.
Required dress should be consistent with the 50’s.

I see University kids in my city…getting on the bus dressed in the jammy pants…pink fuzzy pants with “my kitty” on them.
Workplace…we have to constantly send out memos….telling people not to wear crocks paired with sweatpants. This is NOT work attire.
Casual Fridays… as you can imagine ….are a complete shite-show.

Sadly it is a Provincial Government Office Tower.
