A lot of good candidates ran this year and many either didn't prevail or are still contesting their races. They are Trump's 2024 trial balloons. And if they cannot prevail and nothing else changes, Trump in 2024 will be another 2020. And Trump knows that.

So his announcement on the 15th is going to have to be about something other than his 2024 run.
