I keep seeing conflicting statements.

This is a thick fog of war, and maybe it's because of the language barrier a lot of us have. We keep hearing it second or third or Googlehand.

I speak Portuguese and have friends there. I fully believe that the people will remain in the streets and will not give up. The news of the massive demonstrations is not being covered. There are some seriously large protests. The video footage is simply astounding.
