We only have paper ballots and no machines. Voting stops at 8 PM and the first results are usually in around 11 PM. We now roughly know which parties get in and which don't. Fine counting is then done the following days, to decide who actually get the seats in Parliament.

All the tallies are then published and every person involved in the counting, can verify their own numbers. Checks and balances...
