In retrospect, Crossing the Rubicon is a rather small event involving getting to the other side of a shallow river; hardly worthy of note. Then again it was a symbolic event of great meaning and while it foretold the direction and action that would be taken, it also was a action that could not be rescinded once taken.
It's possible that our perspective in the months ahead may change. I hope we one day look back to this speech and recognize it to have much more significance than what is apparent at this time.
