Lots of Polish have switched to "sky" to avoid discrimination & persecution, especially after moving to other countries. And vice-versa, for Jews, Germans, & Russians living in Poland.
My family is Polish, and my parents told me this was very common because of WWII, Communist USSR, and further oppression by political empires (like Prussia, which partitioned Poland and absorbed it as part of its German & Austrian Empires, and the Russian Empire) going as far back as 1770s.
