Best answer in my opinion is cheap products and the big companies don’t care about the consumer. It’s all a making the money. I buy Applegate turkey and ham. I was just complaining about this. The turkey comes in a resealable plastic bag. The ham comes in plastic bag with peel away plastic that’s supposed to reseal. It doesn’t so I have to use a ziplock plastic bag. I have problems opening most any jar. Even my husband has trouble at times. I’m old school and bang a butter knife on the lid of glass jars to loosen seal. It works! What gets me is I have trouble opening things and the thief's or children can open things. This isn’t a manufacturing problem but I do wish the stickers on food glass jars would come off. I save good jars. They are great for food and storage around the house. I don’t remember having the problem with labels years ago.
