I only found out about this movie, because I listened to the industrial band Frontline Assembly, and quotes from 'Falling Down' are all over the song "Vigilante" from the 1994 album 'Millennium'.
And because of that, I had to see the movie.
A lot of 90s industrial musicians talked about dystopia. Only now as it becomes closer and closer to being true, a lot of those themes and messages from that music seem to be more prophetic rather than novelty. But that's another rabbit hole to follow on a different day.
What really gets me about falling down, is that it could be any one of us in that role. Beaten down by the system we toiled for years within it, only to be ostracized because it's destroyed that part of us that made us relatable and part of humanity. We are people with nothing left, and just holding on to whatever tiny piece of hope we can find. We are perched on the precipice, and God help anyone who dares get in our way.
"We're not the same, I'm an American; you're a sick *******." <- we are already here.
