If you do a lot of long travels (300mi+) you’re probably better off with an ICE.
But if you’re like me (or the average driver) an EV will actually save you time.
My personal example:
My 2018 Volvo V90 T5 = 60 visits to the gas station to fill up a year (including long drives) x 5 minutes a visit = 300 minutes/5 hours spent filling the tank a year.
My 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 = charging the battery at home 3x a week for my daily commute = 150 x 10 seconds (to plug in/out) = 25 minutes.
On long drives = 12 times a year x 15 minutes = 3 hours a year.
Total 3h25m a year driving an EV doing a 600mi drive on average once a month.
owning an EV has a few downsides compared to owning an ICE, but for me waiting to charge on long trips is not one of them. You’ll probably need a toilet/rest stop when driving every 2-3 hours anyway.
