How is someone living in China, not Chinese and making statements against the government not being abducted in the dead of night?

There are these two westerners who lived in China and traveled on motorbikes for years. They married Chinese women and made blogs on YouTube. The CCP got interested in them and they found out. Lucky for them they were able to flee with their families before getting arrested and donating their organs.
