As one who designed, patented and built the worlds largest robotic painting facility, I can attest its bullshit. AI and robots can do all sorts of shit. WITH HUMAN ASSISTANCE. They can do their one thing. Humans build them, facilitate, repair, position them, relocate them, fuel them, modify , adjust, calibrate, and ultimately replace them. They dont do shit on their own unless we tell them too.
Yet...
I think that is the point. Will AI get powerful enough that it can do these things on its own? Elon seems to think AI will be very powerful and much smarter/faster than a human, but his question was will it be more good or bad.
I agree that right now a human must be involved. In the future I could certainly see someplace like China pushing for complete automation if enough scientific and computational breakthroughs happen.
There is so much more to it than “brainpower” or “computational ability”. For example. if you put AI knowledge in a computer running a robot. How will it know one of its own screws is coming loose? How will it tighten it? What if the screw is stripped? The point is AI can do wonders as a computational marvel. It cant do anything with that without humans facilitating it to do more and we can always disable it. Just like we can’t win a fight with a tiger, but we can cage it and we can shoot it.
