You need to wonder why they draw blood from, assign a social security number to, and footprint newborns. And why you also can't leave unless you go through that, also receiving a birth certificate. Why can't they just let you take your kid?
Having a record of children being born isn't necessarily a bad thing.
It's been suggested that children are being bred solely to be trafficked. If this is true, then we should want there to be documentation that they exist and hopefully follow up on their well-being at some time.

I'm guessing that's all hospital policy. If you have the kid at home, none of that applies.
