There's a reason the Founding Fathers narrowly defined treason.

IMHO it's as broadly defined as it could be. "High crimes and misdemeanors" means virtually nothing and anything it's intended to mean.

No wonder the stated penalty ranges from 5 years and a $10k fine to DEATH.

This is a VERY SPECIFIC TERM that means:

ANY Crimes committed as a high official
EVEN misdemeanors

Meaning, you can impeach the president for JAYWALKING.
